And so...a Deviant returns...

Mon Oct 26, 2009, 12:22 PM
::: Update :::
As of three days ago, I've started on a 4 part drawing set which will include the four elemental spirits a Spirit-Master can summon in Aion Online. I'm intending these to be amazing pieces of work so serious effort is being applied in them. Using B2-Pencils for outlining and dry pastels for the coloring. I started using them for the first time on the water elemental picture and absolutely love the control and vivid color they provide.

::: Drawing Log ::: [will be updated regularly]

Water Elemental - *Finished 6-7hrs*
Fire Elemental - *Finished 8-10hrs [really took my time]*
Air Elemental - *Starting contour Fri-13 [Have not touched it since then, hope to soon]*
Earth Elemental - *Canceled [much too difficult] *

::: My Comments :::

Water Elemental -
- Surprisingly easy. I thought that water would be difficult since its fluid, but as it turns out, pastels do wonderfully in that effect. Not to say it didn't take some effort tho.

Fire Elemental -
- After working on the water, I thought that since rocks are fixed objects with definite lines that they would be easy to draw. On the contrary, they can be much more difficult to draw if you're trying to make them look realistic. This took me by surprise. Further more, fire was quite daunting as well and I'm unhappy with its result. Although, its not a bad effect so I can't complain much.

- Even though the rocks really aren't that hard to do, it gets boring really quick. I'm glad it's almost through, this was the reason for the delay in completion. -_-

Air Elemental -
- Not that tricky looking to draw. I see no future problems in this piece.

Earth Elemental -
- Perhaps I am getting in over my head thinking I can draw this one. There's so much detail in it I shudder thinking of actually completing it cleanly with reasonable effect. We will see in time... *edit* I was in over my head and canceled it. The detail was tedious and turned out horridly xc

STEAMPUNK ABE LINCOLN thanks you for the fave and encourages you to do some steampunk cosplay this year.
:iconforte805:
yea, the stuff you do is astounding. Do you weld any of it?

Nope no welding for me... not yet anyways.

Everything on Steampunk Abe and my costumes is generally held together with nuts, bolts and rivets.

With this steampunk stuff I have been experimenting with faux-welding ... as in taking materials like sculptey clay, and hot glue, then using a pencil to press welding beads/marks into the soft material before it hardens. Took me a while to figure out the technique, but it looks fabulous once painted. :)

Very cool, thx for getting back to me on that. :)
